What is it in this country that people (or, more specifically, telecom/water/gas companies etc.) think that if people live in a house together they are sharing everything, including their lives? I'm sure they wouldn't even think about it if Nicola were a man..
When I moved in, I took over the NTL line from my landlord as he's only in for a couple of weeks every 4 months or so and said he didn't a phone. Then he wanted one, after all and applied to NTL who then send ME a letter that an engineer would come round to install the line. My landlord hadn't told me he was intending to have a phone line installed so I called NTL saying that it had to be a mistake because I hadn't ordered a new line. Obviously, my landlord then wondered why nobody would come to install the line and called NTL and they said "but you canceled last week!" They then would have installed a second line with separate number and everything but would only have supplied one bill - to me. Trying to explain that there were two separate parties living in the house was futile so my landlord went to BT who installed a new line with separate bill with no hassle...
