This worked so well when I did it last, I think I'll do it again.

No googling, or I'll accuse you of being a chump.

I don't even know what a chump is, but it's not great when it's pork, so it can't be that good when applied to people.

Words from a song... tell me the song and the singer.

1) design, blackeyed, havoc, back. REM - The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight - [livejournal.com profile] ashfae
2) career, churchill, tyne Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army - [livejournal.com profile] the_maenad
3) undertaker, induction, destruction
4) perfumed, blue-blooded, vintage, kegs
5) ash, devil, witching, flower
6) heartbeat, missing, calling, cure, wake
7) violets, demanding, stomach, scream Prince - When Doves Cry - User deleted his comment (no idea why!)
8) coon-skin, fire-hose, whirlpool, manhole Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues - [livejournal.com profile] purpleheather
9) Rob Dickens, Khartoum, Clouds Enya - Orinocco Flow - [livejournal.com profile] purplepiano
10) hyped feet, dope, magic, The Bay, pants

1. R.E.M. The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight? That's the only song I can think of containing the word "blackeyed," though I can't remember where "havok" might appear in it...

"The cat in the hat came back, wreaked a lot of havoc on the way."

hahahha that is very cool. i am sure i used to sing that as "the cat in the hat came back, slept along the cabbage patch" - which, hey MAKES NO SENSE! and i never thought to look up the real words.

and does 'wreaked a lot of havoc on the way' sound like 'slept along the cabbage patch'? well, a tiny bit maybe. you listen and decide.

:)

Ah, I was never able to understand the last half of that sentence! A mystery solved, huzzah! Thanks. =)

(perhaps a chump is low-quality chimp)

Then what is a champ?

Since twit and twat mean the same thing, I think twout should, too.

I wasn't aware twit and twat did mean the same thing..."twat" is a pretty rude word where I come from, whereas "twit" is a cute way of saying "idiot." "Twout" sounds rather like a two year old trying to name a fish.

A champ is a chimp who's very, very good at being a chimp!

Twit and twat definitely don't mean the same thing! Twit means idiot, whereas twat means, err, the vagina (so it's a slightly better way of saying "cunt")

Except the OED denies all knowledge of this meaning, so I may be going mad.

Twit also means vagina, although it isn't very commonly used.

Gosh. You learn something every day. Although I'm still surprised by the OEDs silence on the subject, it isn't usually this coy...

I think 6 is Evanescence, Bring Me to Life.

Not sure what the others are I don't think, but clearly number 10 is one that Nick needs to know. *g*

I think "No" to both parts is in order. You'll see why. :)

The only thing I can think of with Coon-skin is Subterranean homesick blues...

Completely unconnected note (for I is a musical nignoramus) - I am off to C's shortly, and she says being picked up latelatelate is no problem, so could you collect me after bridge like we discussed?

I have been shopping, written filk and done more costume stuff. I bought one of your favourite things to eat! :)

2: Elvis Costello, "Oliver's Army"
3: Barry McGuire, "Eve of Destruction"?
5: Genesis, "Supper's Ready" ??

I'd have got 8.

2 is right! 3 and 5 are wrong...

Respectively, "Eve Of Destruction" does not have the word "Induction" in it, and "Supper's Ready" doesn't have "ash". (I sort of stop looking after the first one)
