Probably an old idea, but what the hey...

Identify the songs from a collection of words in them...

1) apricot, gavotte, coffee. Carly Simon - You're So Vain ([livejournal.com profile] bopeepsheep)
2) Hot rod, concerned, dust bowl, dreamers. Prefab Sprout - Cars And Girls ([livejournal.com profile] reindeerflotila)
3) hollow, transistor, stadium, laughing. Van Morrison - Brown-eyed Girl ([livejournal.com profile] spikydavid)
4) valley, blade, sinner, crack. Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell ([livejournal.com profile] crocodilewings)
5) Eskimo, pigeons. Manfred Mann - The Mighty Quinn ([livejournal.com profile] bopeepsheep
6) flesh, receiver, believer, touch. Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus ([livejournal.com profile] karohemd)
7) bluest, ounce, thunder, memories. Guns'n'Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine ([livejournal.com profile] bopeepsheep)
8) evergreens, engineers, bell, go. Chuck Berry - Johnny B Goode ([livejournal.com profile] phlebus)
9) behave, running, beating, tumble, knew. Tiffany - I think we're alone now ([livejournal.com profile] reindeerflotila and [livejournal.com profile] the_alchemist simultaneously.)
10) desert, lie, strangers, rules, aching, shy. Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up. ([livejournal.com profile] sherbetsaucers)

No Googling!

I assume google (which is very efficient at solving this one) is banned?

by a quirk of fate I am listening to number 9 right now.

" i think we're alone now "

Embarrassingly, I find myself recognising '9'. 'I Think We're Alone Now', which was a hit during my childhood by someone called Tiffany, though I suspect that was a cover version.

Indeed it was a cover, though the original (Tommy James & The Shondells) never charted over here.

I'm not with it today, the only one I seem to get is

6) flesh, receiver, believer, touch.
Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus

(1) Doesn't matter.
(2) On which planet?

Or Johnny Cash. :oP
I think the point is the song, not the artist.

You should get (2) as well, probably.

1 sounds as though it's an early draft of 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'. There are 'coffee spoons', of course, and I know the peach that the narrator may or may not have dared to eat was originally an apricot. I fall down at gavotte, but perhaps it was there to rhyme with apricot?

(Not a serious suggestion, though it's apparently true about apricots.)

In one of my band's songs, we do rhyme "Killer apricot" with "Rorschach blot", but it's not that song (which would be really cruel and cheating).

IIRC the scarf was apricot, the terribly vain person watched themselves gavotte in the mirror, there were clouds in the coffee... Carly Simon, and one of my favourite songs... /me nips off to iTunes to start it up. :)

One of mine, too. It was on Radio 2 this morning, and I cranked up the volume and wound the window down.

5 has to be the Mighty Quinn. Manfred Mann version better than other versions IMO.

3 is "Brown-eyed Girl", I believe...
