I turn around. What has the cat got in its mouth?

A bird. That's definitely a bird. I can tell by the flapping. OK, bird rescue mission is go.

Implement! I need an implement! Dustpan. That's useful. I can use it to carry the bird outside, and I can use it to seperate the cat from the bird. Oh! She's let it go. Quick...I have to grab her...

[There follows a long chase scene consisting of bird, pursued by cat, pursued by dustpan-waving man, around house]

I know...open the windows and the back door. Then when the bird tries to fly out, it'll escape, and I can grab the cat.

[Bird flies towards open window]

Oh yes! Oh yes! Plan is working.

[Bird hits open window and falls back into house, to be grabbed by cat]

Maybe this bird is too stupid to live? No! Must save bird.

[There follows a reprise of the long chase scene consisting of bird, pursued by cat, pursued by dustpan-waving man]

[Bird flies towards open window]

Here we go again.

[Bird hits window and falls _outside_ of house]

Whew. Close all the windows and doors.

[Cat spends next hour hunting for where bird has gone]
[Man collapses]

Because of the way windows work, when open, there is glass at an angle to the closed...

Inside

The bird hit the open pane of glass and managed to bounce back inside the house (it was less far open than diagram indicates).
