I've been doing that One Word thing, which is quite fun. Here is a guide to my efforts so far.


Advance
The cheque landed on the mat with a thump that spoke of paid debts, a new computer and a nice holiday. Then I woke up, and realised that I'm still not Terry Pratchett.

Final
The snap of the starter's gun cuts the silence. There's a pause, and then the splash of the swimmers entering the water is drowned by the shouts from the audience, made up entirely of parents. Seconds later, the end is reached. Someone has won.

Forward
There is a smile on her face as she talks to me. I guess she can see the effort and concentration in my eyes. She's undoubtedly pretty, and she's probably used to it, but that doesn't mean that I can be rude. I must keep my gaze up.

I should perhaps confess that the last one is a reworking of something I did before, but it was the first time I'd played the game. (For anyone who doesn't know, the site puts up a word a day and you have one minute to write about it. The time limit is why the second one ends rather abruptly.)

One thing I've noticed is that in none of them have I used the word itself. There's no rule that says I shouldn't. Hmm.



The weekend was nice, went to see taimatsu's family. They're lovely, but I do seem to drink a lot when I'm there.
