We're all going to die in 2014, maybe.

The Centre issued the warning about the asteroid after the giant rock was first observed in New Mexico by the Lincoln Near Earth Asteroid Research Program.
I mean...in New Mexico? That's a rather nearer Near Earth Object than I was expecting.

Maybe it'll get the Orion project going again.
Amusing thing about this is that it registers as a mighty 1 on the Torino scale (as in bloody unlikely to do anything more than be a pretty dot in the night sky). It's the 6,7 and 10s you have to worry about which are the varying degrees of likelyhood that whatever evolves from the 'roaches will be digging up our remains one day. Bizarrely 8 and 9 aren't as bad as 6 and 7, they're just a certain impact.
Even if 2003 QQ47 does hit, a less than 1% chance, then it will 'only' destroy a continent.
Of course this is a bit close to the old "Time of Fire" jobbie from the Mayan calendar, maybe I should find a religion quickly :)
