Hmm

I'll do a proper update later, but it's come to my attention that some people may not be fully conversant with the rules for Mornington Crescent. Because the weekend's game of "Wizardly Mornington Crescent" went so well, I thought perhaps a new game might be a good idea.

We'll play with the simple rules, meaning that diagonals are only in play if all other routes are blocked, and that you can be boxed or cornered, but not both, unless branched. As this is Wizardly, we'll be playing with the additional dimension rules, but be sure to explain things well.

To keep things traditional, I'll begin with Bag End , but keeping an option on The Floating Market .

Game on.

Hmmm - I'm confused. How do you adapt the shunting rules for this version of Mornington Crescent? Oh, hold on - I think I see.

Howl's Moving Castle

(I'm assuming we're abiding by the Algerian Convention rules here, and that triple crossovers are legal as long as there are a prime number of vowels in the destination.)

The Phantom Tollbooth

...which, unless I'm much mistaken, gives me Xanthan Gum face-up and an option on the Starlight Express...

Xanthan Gum face-up? Good call.

Can't see that the Starlight Express is going to do you much good, but it's entirely up to you. Obviously, you'll need to collect tokens if you want to run that line.

I'm going to open up some more lines of play by going to The Place Between , all world series' are now active.

Oh, excellent. That opens up parallel transrealisms as valid moves, doesn't it, in which case I offer up

The Wood between the Worlds

which conveniently blocks Diagon Alley, which would have otherwise been a legal move, but, well, it just lacks finesse.

Now, I have to say I'm not quite sure on this, but don't parallel transrealisms provide a state of conflict between reverse-standard methods and the '76 Grosnych precedent?

If so, I'd have to be somewhat daring, and suggest Caer Cawnen.

Aha.

Which allows me to flip to Dun Deverry and turn over the first inn, I do believe.

If you check your map, you'll see that in crossing no less than three geographical areas containing an r, you've called up the Queensmith concession. Since we're playing by the simple rules, and it's still Tuesday, this means all players pick up a reversed left-handed token.

As your move has also eliminated any left-aligned descent I may have otherwise chosen to play (damn your eyes!), I'm going to perform a somewhat tactical retreat, and move to the Atlantean city of Balacris. By the harbour, specifically.

Next?

I'll roll for favourable air currents and make a play for

Riva, on the Isle of The Winds

That should cause a fair amount of trouble for anyone.

Ah, a commen misenterperation. The Algerian Convention only comes into play if the previous move didn't envolve any constenent with a greater value than 3. That clarification was made, I believe, during a ruleing in 1921. It was made by the famous referee Guntersber and so, naturaly, is called the DaVinci Suplement.

And so, with that firmly in mind, and considering the clasic opening stratagy of Bag End I'd have to some in with Watling Street.

Gah. I suspect this means I need to go with Dollis Hill, thanks to the Daisy Amalgamation. Great.

Hmm. A modified Schlieffen Move, I think, to Victoria, is in order.

Unathadox but brilliant! Well, I think the only thing I can do is double twist Paddington.

Proceed at once to Hogwarts for re-training.

I thought there was something dodgy about that move. It is, of course, in violation of the Five Points Of Mystic Etiquette from 1843.

Phewf. Guess that means I can proceed via Monument using the Invocation Of Sealed Portals.
:-p

Ahhh, sorry about that, Victoria really did throw me. Right, yes, ok. Monument is a bit of a suprise, would have expected you to go for Elephant and Castle. However, as your not I think I might be able to counter corner by claiming Charing Cross.
