Why does he worry about his characters?
Ok...
So...
If you've seen my post here Naval Gazing then you'll know that I worry about the impact my characters have on the games they are in.
Now, the question is, why do I worry? As with many things, it's not one reason, it's several.
1) Basic Insecurity.
I'm not the most secure of people. Deal.
2) I play powerful characters.
It's true. I do. Lets look at the evidence....
Saul : Prince of Wycombe
Henry Bretten : Now Primogen of the Tremere in Runnymede
Slides-Thru-Cracks : Member of the Silver Pack
William-ap-Gwydion : Duke of Thorns
Mays the Satyr : The exception...he's nothing and nobody.
John Stevenson : Ductus of his pack.
Trelawney Thorpe : OK, another exception.
That means that of my seven characters, 5 hold positions of some sort. Two are definitely nationally important, one is borderline.
I don't do this deliberately, I'm no power mad foo'. But the number of times someone turns to me and says "You seem competent" is...large. (Note to self, never never set off on a sentence without knowing the end)
Playing important characters, IMHO, places a degree of responsiblity on the player. You can't just get your own pleasure without considering the consequences on others. However, sometimes it's hard to see what effect you are having on a game.
Hmm..
3) I'm the RST.
I know about plots in advance. I've seen most character sheets. I have to police myself really hard (and consult with ST's a lot) to ensure that I don't do something really obscene.
Those are the big three reasons I worry.
I think.
